"Shatner of the Spiders"

Films: Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)

Alias: None

Type: Natural

Location: Desert/Civilized area

Height/Weight: That of average tarantulas.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: So, you've had your hearty supply of giant spiders thrown at you from the screen? Well, now we have to put up with regular-sized tarantulas. That is, all 500+ of them.

History: Chemical pesticides haven't been doing Verde Valley, Arizona much good. Sure, they got rid of all the pests, but now the local tarantula population is starving, and desperate measures are in order for the spiders. Now, they get into large groups, and humans are on the menu this time around.

Notable Kills: More than a few tarantulas manage to stow away on a crop duster plane. The pilot doesn't notice until he's high in the air. Cue fiery crash.

Final Fate: After ransacking the town and killing most of its residents, the tarantulas seem to just stop, and the rest of the world can't seem to be bothered to care, implying that the situation was contained. Then again, Verde Valley might as well be the spider capitol, as it has been covered head to toe in webby cocoons.

Powers/Abilities: Unnaturally venemous and give them enough time with their webs...

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4- It's an arachnophobe's worst nightmare. Armies of large spiders everywhere. Not even William Shatner's stunted acting can mitigate the terror of being surrounded by these hyper-deadly arachnids.

Trivia: -About 5,000 live tarantulas were employed to make this movie. They were not the easiest of actors to work with, as they had to be kept separate most of the time so they wouldn’t eat each other, and their shed hairs caused much itching among the humans. They were also rather timid, so making them approach their victims was rather arduous. Oh, and many died on set.

-Tarantula venom isn't deadly in the slightest. If anything, a bee sting will give you just as much pain, unless you're allergic to that sort of thing.

Deemer's Tarantula was only the start.

I'd imagine getting through those tunnels is Hell.

"There! No more FOX News radio!"
The actors had NO idea what they were getting into, were they?

"I die with the fact that this lady is an idiot."

At least, he made it to the bufeet before he got offed.
Planet of the Spiders. Now, that's a title.

So, they're really aliens? That explains a lot.

United Airlines just went even more tyrannical with their policies.

See? Actual spiders, for once.

She won't jump on the bed after this.

Bummer.
